Apoptosis is morphologically characterised by chromatin condensation and DNA degradation, and is a mechanism used by the immune system for antigen-induced clonal deletion of cortical thymocytes (i.e., immune tolerance). Dead cells generated by apoptosis are quickly engulfed by macrophages for degradation. Caspases are a large family of cysteine proteases that act in cascades. A cascade that leads to caspase 3 activation mediates apoptosis and is responsible for killing cells, recruiting macrophages, and presenting an “eat me” signal(s). 2005-10-01 · Results showed that a Bax-regulated mitochondria- mediated apoptosis is responsible for the in vitro ischemia-induced neuronal death. Reduction in mitochondrial membrane potential plays no role in triggering this apoptosis.

Pronounce Apoptosis as Apo-ptosis not as Apoptosis. Abstract Although insulin‐dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) results from irreversible loss of beta cells, the mode of cell death responsible for this loss has not previously been categorized. In t Apoptosis is an evolutionarily conserved cell death pathway that is responsible for the proper culling of cells during normal development and the maintenance of homeostasis. In vertebrates, apoptosis is important for proper development, maintenance of tissue homeostasis.

The caspases implicated in apoptosis can be further divided into two subgroups based on their structure and the temporal aspects of their activation during cell death . Initiator caspases (caspase-2, -8, -9, and -10) have long prodomains and are primarily responsible for initiating caspase activation cascades. Apoptosis is a form of programmed cell death primarily characterized by the presence of unique morphological and biochemical features (Kroemer et al, 2009). Apoptosis is

Siramesine causes preferential apoptosis of mast cells in skin
Traditionally, tubular cell death in ARF was attributed to necrosis, but recent studies demonstrated that apoptosis accounts for a significant component of renal dysfunction in ARF (4–7). A brief period of ischemia induced remarkable apoptotic tubular cell death (8). Apoptosis is an active cell death that requires intact subcellular structures and synthesis of phylogenetically conserved proteins.
